In recent posts we have discussed the aid which goes astray with predictable regularity. I thought I might share some of the ideas used in France, granted that the problems of the needy in France are not quite the same as in Africa. Here we have an organisation called Restos du Coeurs. (Restaurants of the heart.) They feed the homeless and poor families. Its run by volunteers who station themselves in the supermarkets. They tell you what they want need that day. You buy something off the list, pay for it at the till, and hand it to the volunteer after check out. No money falls into the hands of the volunteers or any other part of the organisation. It works for me. Just now they are collecting cleaning materials to help the less well off householders clean up after the storms and the flooding in the Vendee. (See derbosoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=nonavia&action=display&thread=2624 The task is enormous. Roads and fields still flooded. Personal items floating on the water where there were once fields. Its terrible. One of our Aero Club members lost both her parents who drowned in their home. In total 28 people died in that small town alone. Bravo Les Restos du Coeur and all the others carrying out grim tasks.
