In another section of this forum it is written:-
This in itself is a minor event but I fear it is part of something for more important. Living in France I see lots of instances where the UK is being marginalised and yet its a cause of sadness to most of my friends and neighbours. Even so, they have plenty of other things in their lives to think about.
Another example of something not generally known about. There is a big event coming up in the sailing calendar. (2018) Its a celebration of the anniversary of the round the world voyage by Sir Francis Chichester. Hard to imagine a more British person. Originally planned to depart from Portsmouth, this event has now been moved to Les Sables D'Olonne in France because they could not get sponsors in the UK in the present climate. Its good for us in the Vendéé. We will enjoy two weeks of pre departure celebrations and it will bring a lot of cash to our region, famous of course for the Vendée Globe round the world race. Its one small event in the context of the whole sordid mess, but its sad for UK.

I really cannot understand how the UK is not being offered a second referendum on EU membership, our Theresa seems really head in the sand over this. While the Brexit vote was in favour it was still less than 50% of the population who voted to pull out of the EU. If we were the big global power then ok go it on our own but sadly we are not. Reading Flight last week on Worlds Air Forces if you consider where we stand in air and general military power we are becoming weak and less influential on global scene.
Not wishing to start a big brexiet discussion or argument which will become heated depending on views Ron makes very valid point we are losing what influence we had.

I remember Chichester getting back to the UK in 1967. A 51st anniversary seems an odd one to celebrate.
