I am toying with the idea of going to Fairford before / instead of the show to grab some photos. Has anyone used the Park and View areas? Can it be recommended? Would pre or post show be best?

No real simple answer to this one as depends on what sort of pics you want and how much time you want to spend!!
Have used P&V East for arrivals and departures and P&V West for departures only. Both have their good points. With the current parking plan East probably is the better. Thursday and Friday are the busier arrival days with Friday getting some rehearsals in. Advantage of Monday is that everything is going to go, or go tech!!
I only live 12 miles away so have done Thurs & Fri, one show day and Monday for the last few years. Really good 2 days would be Sunday & Monday, gets you round the static and the option of the flying display and Monday Departures.
Any more questions just ask. I'll start a picture thread with a few samples from P&V when I get a chance.

As Gwoof says, the P&V's can offer good photo opportunities, but at the same time can prove frustrating. This is mainly due to the uncertainty of where the aircraft are going to go after touchdown on arrivals,ie.backtrack, turn off short left or right,go on static,or go to the display apron!!!On arrivals days, the crowdline on PV east is split into stepladder/no ladder enclosures which is approx.600yds long, however on departures on Monday this is condensed into a corner adjacent to the taxy way with viewing spots at a premium--they start queing at about 5.00 A.M.!!!Over the years I have attended since 1985,due to a neutral wind, both ends have been used for departures at the same time, helos lifting off mid runway-now this is really frustrating!!
