Sadly the museum is now closed and a few days ago an auction took place for some of the contents. I would have thought that the institute of mechanical engineers or similar organisation would have assisted the owner to keep the museum open. What a pity. When I lived in the area, many saw Fred Dibnah as a bit of an eccentric and a maverick and there were many who had little time for him. As ever, once he had gone to the great chimney in the sky, plus the TV programmes, a whole new fan base appeared. It seems a great pity that the museum has been broken up. I can't help thinking that if his base had been Brentford rather than Bolton, it would have survived.
