This build is going to be one straight out of the box, if I had it. Binned it when moving house but kept the back for painting/decals ect. The kit comes as ZD327 based from RAF Cottesmore from the Naval Joint Wing in 2010. I will be keeping it as ZD327 but not using the Joint Wing decals, instead it will be from its time in Kandahar during Operation Herrick. IMG_0424 by Christopher Newton, on Flickr IMG_0425 by Christopher Newton, on Flickr The nose section of the fuselage went together very nicely, no adjustments or filler needed. IMG_0427 by Christopher Newton, on Flickr The rest of the fuselage fitted like a glove. There are bits of detail from the turbine. On the painting I havn't gone for neatness but rather attempting to show a bit of wear as you would expect in those conditions. That's all for now. Chris

That would be good. The Harrier I feel was retired too early. Definitely one of the better ones to look at though.

It is progressing nicely there Chris. Would you mind if I hijacked your thread when you have finished it so I can add my pictures of the build and finished GR3. The old and new on the same thread might look good together. What do you think?

The last bit of detailing on the Harrier is now done. Its just a case of wait for the paint to dry on the weapons to be able to add them then put the decals on. This is how it looks at the moment. IMG_1988 by Christopher Newton, on Flickr IMG_1990 by Christopher Newton, on Flickr Chris

Hi Chris. It looks good did you think the black under marking worked? I have tried this myself but didn't like the end look so I haven't tried it since. So on to my GR3 version. Only a few per painted shots mainly because of the fact that Airfix no longer use the viffing assembly which is a same.
Now the finished model. Number 1 squadron wearing winter camouflage.
Thanks to Chris for letting me post these here. Colin

Thanks Colin.
Ye I'd say it worked deffinately gives the grey a more blackish/grey finish rather than the clean grey. It's the first weathered look I've been happy to finish with.
Yours looks pretty smart.

Thank you Chris. I have used some of the commercial weathering effects and didn't like those either. I might revisit the black under paint though but not for a few models though as my next is a Lightning F2 which is going to be my first polished metal coat finished model.

I haven't tried the usual methods yet it's more of a play and see what happens. That should look nice in a polished metal.
