A new and fascinating site launched a few hous ago by the BBC and the National Museum of Computing. A real blast from the past. There are loads of clips from 1970s and 80s TV shows. computer-literacy-project.pilots.bbcconnectedstudio.co.uk/The BBC Micro Computer was made by Acorn Computers. They expected sales of 12,000 units as there were doubts if computing at home would catch on, turned out to be 1.5 million sold. I started out on one of these with data on a cassette tape and later a 5.25 inch floppy ! The code used hasnt changed much at all and we still use it today. Looking at some of this its hard to comprehend how far computers and their users have advanced in such a short space of time. On the site you can run some bbc micro programs in windows they use a clever java emulator, but we dont want to do that...thats cribbing in the extreme ! Now I must search my shed, loft and lockup and see if i can find my old bbc micro...its there somewhere, I think Ill fire it up for some coding fun if I can find a monitor with suitable connection, if not Ill rig something up.
