Hello Simon The Chinook was ZD575. Here are some photos i took of it in the Derwent Valley in Derbyshire (aka 'Dambusters Valley'). It came through at 1650 so i guess it made Shawbury around 1720? Cheers Shaun

Cracking photos as always, Vickers Four.
To complicate Chinook sightings today, Thurs 8th. Seen as I drove home from Yorkshire, a Chinook routing south to north (approx) crossed the M62 at around 1000 foot (guess) in straight and level flight, just to the west of the M6 junction - presumably navigating north up the low Level Route. Noted at 1501 hours.

Hello Viscount
I would put money on the one you saw going up the 'free lane' being ZD575. It was noted flying northbound through Dunmail Raise by a friend late afternoon yesterday.
I wonder if anyone got its callsign if he worked Warton on the way North?
Cheers

Just got word from my fellow 'hill sitter' in Cumbriana that it went through Dunmail at 1549.

Shaun,
Apologies for the delay in replying mate, great pictures. How often does low flying happen at Derwent?

Hello Simon
I really dont think it sees that much traffic through there. I was at a loose end that afternoon, so i spent it at the north end of the valley. The sides of the valley are heavily wooded and its difficult to get a clear view. The valley is flowed southbound for fixed wing traffic (rotary can go either way).
I spent quite a bit of time up there in the mid nineties and it wasn't that busy then either. Probably only seeing a couple of movements in an afternoon.
Apart from the Chinnok there were two Cranwell based Tutors and a civvie Emeraude doing his immpression of Guy Gibson!
In conclusion; I wouldn't recommend a special journey but if you are 'just passing' and have a couple of hours to spare then you may just see something!
Cheers
Shaun
