Planning permission for the closure of Dungeon Lane has been finally approved. This was granted some years ago but had been delayed by a legal objection by a utilities company.Shortly before the planning permission lapsed an agreement with the objector was found. The planning permission includes the fencing of Hale Heath. An area bound by Hale Road to the North, the airfield to the West,Baileys Lane to the South and a new public Bridleway adjacent to the stables on the western edge of Hale Village will now be completely fenced by 2m high security fencing and all public access denied. As Dungeon lane will now be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians Baileys Lane will be reopened as it will be the only access to the tower and farms to the south of the runway. In addition a large area between Baileys Lane and the river will be fenced with a slightly lower gauge of fence thus achieving Peel Holding`s long aim of denying public access to Oglet Shore. An action group,SOS:Save Oglet Shore FB group, has been formed in response to this and a protest walk along Dungeon Lane to the shore is scheduled for 1200 Sat 14/7/18.
Access to the general aviation area is unchanged as the fencing of Dungeon will be south of the crash gate.
As nearly all green space on the Speke Estate has now been built upon and there is a planning application for the development of the area between Speke and Hale it would be no surprise that local citizens may take a dim view of being denied access to the river.

There seems to be a lot of rumour an misinformation around the village at the moment regarding the RESA. No where in the proposal, and no where on the plans included in the planning application does it show any part of Oglet being fenced off to stop public access. There is already a fence and high hedge along the southern boundary of Bailey's Lane. Nothing that I've seen suggests this will change apart from being renewed. The very fact that whilst part of Dungeon Lane is closing, the new bridal path and the re-opening of Bailey's Lane would see public access retained.
Do Peel even own the land to the south of Bailey's Lane?

So when it is going to close ?
Will there be gates so people can’t carry on down and drive behind the runway on that road ?

The map with the planning confirmation clearly shows new fencing south of Baileys Lane extending to the east of the existing fence/hedge.Quite why is beyond me,the area has no safety implication for the airport. The length of Baileys between the two existing gates is shown with new fences on BOTH sides. If this, slightly lower gauge, new southern fence has a purpose other than preventing access to the shore then I am at a loss to explain it.

Perhaps it’s to prevent people who come down the new bridal way from accessing the shore via the farmers field in the area you describe rather then via Dungeon Lane and the public footpaths from there onto the shore? In any event it’s not correct to suggest people will no longer have access to Oglet.

Access to the general aviation area is unchanged as the fencing of Dungeon will be south of the crash gate.
....... this will mean a much smaller area for Joe Public to congregate, and I can forsee the crash gate becoming even more obstructed with vehicles.
Hopefully the Airport and or the Police will be more pro-active in their enforcement of parking restrictions. Perhaps they could paint double red lines and install
an ANPR camera (another nice earner) they seem to be everywhere else.

Just some further info From the developments thread Martin had a photo of the fencing This has appeared in Dungeon Lane since Wednesday, directly opposite the entrance to Viscount Drive (aka the GA road). I presume it is a trial erection (can I say that LoL ) for the new fencing I ran this by a neighbour who is a fencing contractor, he reckons its something called 358 prison mesh panel in colour RAL6005 (moss green) . Used a lot in school boundaries so he says.
