At approx 21:48 GMT BAW084 G-CIVT from Vancouver touched down at LHR and now hopefully we can see our skies return to some normality..
I apologise this is not a Liverpool movement but it does at last see an end to Mother natures fury..

As I type,Tuesday evening 20th April,UK airspace is opening and all airports will be open tomorrow. So what has changed?...........The volcano is still erupting and the wind still blows from the north. The realisation that the risk can be sensibly managed has dawned. The perception of the risk has changed, that`s all. Forcing thousands of people to undertake long overland journeys has actually put those travellers at far greater risk of injury than them taking any flight at any time.Road travel is much riskier than air travel, especially if the driver is tired and stressed. In some respects, this is our fault, all of us.We expect too much.Life is not safe.Leaving home in the morning involves risk. This decision could(and should) have been taken days ago. Gareth,cyclist.......more dangerous form of transport than flying over volcanoes. Sponsor my charity bike ride at: www.bmycharity.com/V2/wadoki

Sadly it may be a reflection of the litigious time we live in but the holiday traveller has no control whatsoever over restrictions like these airspace closures, nor the lack of help offered or by Airlines and Travel Companies. Worst was and still is, the total lack of any rescue plans beiing in place, despite Government promises and several COBRA meetings.

When I heard that the navy were being mobilised to help stranded travelers, I asked myself, "What Navy?" Turns out we could afford 1 vessel which picked up a about 200 people., (Plus troops.) There was a time when we could have sent a fleet. How times have changed.

Actually Ron the PM promised three ships including Ark Royal and HMS Albion was sent to pick up the 3rd Rifles stranded en route home from Afghan tour in Spain. The Captain decided he could add around 300 stranded tourists as long as they had proof and ID. Albion did what it said it would do, however the other two ships are circling in the Channel and are not now doing what was promised by Brown as the airports are open again ? David Milliband was reported as saying people shoiuld rely on that "British Spirit and make their own arrangements" NICE eh ?
