Does anyone know if Winston Churchill ever landed at Speke Airport?
Given Liverpool's strategic importance in WWII I imagine he did, and mabe even later on in peacetime as Prime Minister, but I don't recall ever having seen a photograph or reference to a visit.
TIA

Churchill stated once that the only thing during the war to frighten him was U - Boats. Located in Derby House in the city was the Atlantic Battle Control Centre. It is I think still a museum and may or may not be a place to enquire about such a visit of the man. Maybe a tinternet search may bring up more info. 25th April 1940 the net shows he visited Liverpool to see the city and Port.

I dont know about Churchill but I was one of the crowd on the balcony when Anthony Eden flew from Liverpool to Boscombe Down in June 1957 in a Viking of the Queens flight on his return from Jamaica. I have a clip from Movietone news of the occasion. jbmack
