New Secretary of State for Transport is Philip Hammond. Hope he does what the Conservatives said they'd do with regard to the 2008 Transport Act. Although, somehow I don't think they will find a bin big enough or wont be bothered. Promises, promises, promises.

There are many MPs (of all persuasions - but mostly southern-based) who seriously believe that those of us in the north should jump on a train to Euston/Kings Cross and take the tube to Paddington to use their beloved Heathrow, and that's why the third runway will never happen. It's been promoted as a 'domestic' runway at that end of the country and that is why there is so much objection to it by those whose homes would have to be demolished to make way for it.

I've never been in favour of that project. I know the current bridge is too small but I think the traffic could be greatly reduced if they extended the A5300 instead. Although it's obvious its planned to take place but I can't see that happening anytime soon either. Pitty as it would be a fantastic asset for the Airport and the people of North Wales, Merseyside and Cheshire.

The problem is that every time the Runcorn Bridge seizes up (which is all too often as we all know!), it sends Warrington into gridlock, because Warrington has more than enough traffic of its' own anyway, but that's another story.

Possibly but I think it's too far over to the East and simply duplicates what's already there. As the population grows and along with it our airport/industrial area's to the south of the city this route too would be swamped. This would result in excessive noise/pollution being concentrated in a small heavily populated area. I also think that, looking at the way the A5300 is routed it could pass to the East of Hale Village before crossing the river to join the M56 at either Elton or Stoak.
