BBC Lunchtime North West News were reporting that a full scale rescue exercise took place this morning centred on a 'fire' aboard a Mersey Ferry mid-river. They showed a RAF Rescue Sea King, with no apparent code worn involved in winching 'survivors' off the Ferry. While off the topic of this thread, a reminder that next week should see the 'Brietling Wing Walkers' team perform off the Pier Head on Tuesday 25th - anyone know display time(s)? Merseymart a few issues ago reported that a "Griffon" helicopter could also be present, provided the organisers could sort out a place to land it! Liverpool One Pagent of Power event details are on a link from the home page index of www.cpop.co.uk

Tonight's Pisa flight was EI-EKZ again and the Reus flight, landing soon, is showing as EI-EBI, one of the aircraft that has not been based at LJLA.

I watched the same at tea-time on the BBC to see if it was the same Sea King I photographed at Hawarden at lunch time but could not read off the reg.

There are very few RAF Rescue yellow Sea Kings which do not wear the allocated single letter code. While the registration could not be read off from the tele, the fact both were uncoded and in the same region to me makes its likely 2 +2 does = 4, even though the exercise on the Mersey was well over before the time you give for the Sea King arriving at Hawarden.
For the (record) third time in one day, a not on thread topic entry.
At 1730-1800 while walking the dogs on the top of Woolton Woods/Camp Hill ridge there was a very clear view across the old airfield, the wide part of the Mersey Estuary and the Wirral to the tops of the Clwydian Range. However, between the Wirral and the Clwydian Hills was a very clear white finger of sea mist/ground cloud extending down the Dee Valley, probably as far from the sea as around Queensferry. There was a reasonable breeze and no sign of sea mist/fog over the section of the Mersey I could see. Don't know if Hawarden was affected by localised fog during the evening. Rather an unusual meteorlogical observation with one river affected with another quite clear.

I arrived at the Malmaison hotel to do a job just at the same time as the Sea King departed North up the Coast. Just 5 minutes earlier and I'd have been able to 'graph it. Pic of Avanti to follow when I get home to upload and process.

Viscount, I live in Bagillt overlooking the Dee. From about 16.30, fog obliterated the river and it is still covered. The fog has now crept up the hill but is not very thick. It is advection fog, ie warm air moving over cold sea. The Isle of Man suffers badly from it in the summer. Strange the Mersey seems unaffected as the airport ATIS is giving CAVOK.
