Hi All, Whilst visiting relatives in Carlisle I took some time to go and look over the Spadeadam range, great weather! around 14.30 got 4/5 passes by a low level C-130, too far away for any ID I am afraid but they shot at him a couple of times (Smoke rockets) then at 15.35 3 F-16's beat up the area for about 30 minutes taking it in turn to 'attack' the base again with smoke rockets being fired, great fun, I have some good video. Where would people prefer to see video footage for this forum? Anyway here is a frame capture of the lowest pass cant quite make it out but local sources tell me the Dutch have been in town quite a bit?? Someone out there should know...

Hi Tonka ZD938, why not put it on photobucket and place it in this thread or add a youtube link to this thread. Should be interesting to see. Ian.

Hello Simon
I have never visited Spad', but i have met people who tell of cracking days out up there. I understand that when Helicopters use the range you can get quite close to them. I will have watch out for the next Dutch deployment to Carlisle and give Spad' a try!
Bye the way is that F-16 Belgian?
Cheers
Shaun

Shaun,
Yes according to the mil-spotters forum they were Belgian, like most low flying spotting it is frustrating watching if you want good shots. The range is so big that the aircraft come from the South but where you dont know. The C-130 I saw was miles to the West but the 16's were over head, just wish I had a better camera and lens! I will soon but for now my money is going on the Tornado restoration.
In terms of placement I go to the Roman Army Museum on the B6318 just as you get to the carpark there is a road to the left take that for a mile and there is a small carpark on the left. From here it is a quick walk up to Hadrians wall and directly North is the range, you can then choose a position by walking West to one of the many ridges but again it all depends on the track of the aircraft.
Si
