Virgin Atlantic has unveiled proposals to fly from Heathrow to Manchester Airport.
The airline has announced it would launch 84 new flights from the airport in west London in total, subject to how many additional take-off and landing slots it obtains when Heathrow's controversial third runway opens.
The rules governing the allocation of new airport slots are currently being reviewed by the Department for Transport.
Announcing the move, Virgin Atlantic's chief executive Shai Weiss said Heathrow had been dominated by British Airways' parent company, IAG, 'for far too long'.
The airline said it would launch 12 new domestic routes, 37 European routes and 35 global routes.
Alongside Manchester, the new domestic flights would serve Aberdeen, Exeter, Inverness, Belfast, Guernsey, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey and Newquay.

No disrespect but I think this is in the wrong thread. This thread is for charter/inclusive tour flights, not scheduled services. Admin agrees, although "Terminal/Airport Developments" is hardly an ideal place either! As a result a 'Heathrow Link' thread has been started. When I get time I'll try and locate earlier posts on this topic, currently likely in the Flybe News thread. Note: This not a thread about Heathrow or the rights and wrongs about the third runway, but for information regarding how/if Liverpool will feature in airline's plans regarding the future use of Heathrow for domestic flights.

ametyst i thinking along the same lines.and regarding the sale of shares and the wind/solar farm, I have had information from a usually reliable source that planning permission for the energy-producing site was withdrawn for modifications as more land has become available so looks like our guesses appear correct

Obviously their plans are contingent on construction of the third runway. If that happens (increasingly big if) then who knows, especially as Heathrow made a commitment to slots for regional connections.
