The Museum is located at the Northern end of the Airport and is a secure military area, very little can be seen from outside. I had received conflicting reports
regarding access and getting in here can prove to be a bit of a lottery because it is not 'open doors'. Officially, during the Summer months 1st June - 31st October,
the gates are opened at 0900 hrs, 1100hrs and 1300hrs to let you in but are then re-locked. During the Winter months 1st November - 31st May it is Group visits
only (10 persons +) but if one is taking place you can tag along. When I got to the gate at 0900 hrs and read the sign and realized the date I had a problem -
I waited and waited until luckily a soldier came out but he locked the gate behind him. He then explained that a school party was due to visit at 1100 hrs but
they had cancelled due to the deluging rain - and the museum was closed for the day ! After some explaining and pleading he rang a lady inside who re-iterated
the situation, he then handed me his mobile phone, and she said will 30 minutes suffice ?. A no brainer and I was inside, massive disappointment avoided.
I then had 30 minutes to photograph 60+ aircraft in the deluging rain but managed it. The hangar display contains seven aircraft with suitable back drops and
ancillary equipment / weapons but access is only with a guide. Sadly the guide had gone home un-needed so access was denied, the offer of a five Euros donation
also failed. An excellent museum and probably the best in Slovakia, containing one of everything they have ever operated, Mig 21s galore, well worth a visit in better
weather.
