Heres the Leeds Liverpool Canal today 3/10/19
And how it was 15/6/18 when it sprang a leak near Melling.
The canal drained into a culvert pipe running underneath the canal. The culvert was for drainage of the farmers field to the far left.
It took the canal and rivers trust about 8 weeks to fix the leak. There was some serious digging done in that field with some huge machinery and unreal amounts of stone were delivered for this job which must have been used to fill the humongous trench they carved out to find the leak in the first place !
