I wasn't being negative, I just think the leader of an organisation should announce the news when they have got some to report, not when they might have some to report. Hence my statement I felt it was very bizarre. The comment about flights to the Middle East compounds the nonsense of the story. We would of had flights if it wasn't for Brexit ( why not add or flights to China if the runway was longer, or 30mn pax per year if Manchester Airport wasn't there). I find it a bit embarrassing quite frankly to come out with such statements without backing them up.

The three negative posters here - bustcapl, Scottie Dog, evertongary - I challenge you to name a charity of your choice and commit to donate £20 to that charity if one of the named services starts within 2 years. I will match your commitment if no service starts. Happy to donate if we have a direct service to Qatar or UAE as it would be well worth it to see that service at LPL. I wasnt actually. Eing negative just dont understand why they would launch from LPL when they have so many established daily flights already at manchester

Perhaps he was thinking more about Wizzair and its new Mid East venture...

One thing it does prove is that there is a market, all be it from an adjacent region.
Motorways flow both ways.

Its possible the airport may have felt pushed to release this article, there was something on the internet about it from a Manchester Airport group. Maybe they felt they had to say something. We dont know.

Because you would have to drive 4 hours to get to LHR if living up this way, or fly to LHR first.

I find it odd that they state if it wansnt for brexit then we would be talking about a route to uae.or qatar fro march 2020!! Man already have i think 3 x daily to abu dhabi, dubai and doha. Why would they start lpl?! Emerites started Stansted to Dubai last year. Already increased frequency to 2 a day.

Note the following press release from Qatar airways:
DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Airways is delighted to reveal two new exciting Mediterranean destinations will join its ever-expanding network in the first half of 2020, with many more to be announced in the coming months. The airline will also add 66 weekly frequencies to 20 existing destinations in its network due to strong market demand and the recent deliveries of more fuel-efficient aircraft.
The airline will be the first Gulf carrier to begin direct flights to Santorini, its fourth destination in Greece after Athens, Mykonos and Thessaloniki, with services to begin on 20 May 2020. Flights to Dubrovnik, Croatia, the airline’s second destination in Croatia after Zagreb will start on 20 April 2020.
Both Liverpool and Leeds are already on the Qatar route map, albeit by coach. Smaller destinations are being added as NEOs are joining the fleet, which are more fuel efficient (that should be a driver rather than simply adding more capacity - climate change awareness must be the way forward).

Qatar Airways certainly seem very innovative with their expansion plans. I see know reason why they would not consider such a famous city as Liverpool.
