Anyone who is planning a getaway during the May Bank Holiday weekend should be aware (if they aren't already), that the usual first Monday holiday (which would have been the 4th), has now been switched to Friday 8th. We haven't been told this officially as yet. Governments aren't very good at communicating with the people in most countries and the UK is no exception, but I imagine the LoCos will soon be busy adjusting their fares...

In France we celebrate Friday May 8th as well as Friday May 1st, This has been the case for quite some time and certainly as long as I have lived here.
Mercredi 1er janvier : Jour de l’An Lundi 13 avril : Pâques Vendredi 1er mai : Fête du Travail Vendredi 8 mai : Victoire des Alliés en 1945 Jeudi 21 mai : Ascension Lundi 1er juin : Pentecôte Mardi 14 juillet : Fête nationale Samedi 15 août : Assomption Dimanche 1er novembre : Toussaint Mercredi 11 novembre : Armistice 1918 Vendredi 25 décembre : Noël
Bonnes fetes.
(Times are changing a bit and some businesses now open on public holidays; such as DIY, and some supermarkets in the mornings, but generally most businesses close for the day. Fifteen years ago it was a total shut down. Restaurants and cafés are open and places at holiday resorts remain open. EG in our nearest town, Lucon, Aldi and Lidl are closed, So is the giant Leclerc. The mid size Hyper U and Intermarché open mornings until 12-00. Our Biggest DIY, Mr Bricolage, is closed all day. The smaller Bricomarché is open morning. By the way, this is more or less the same on all Sundays.)
