Sad to report that the DC-3 which is owned by Air Service Berlin crashed on approach to Schonefeld this afternoon. There were no serious injuries. It appears to have suffered substantial damage and may be a write-off, although the DC-3 is a tough old bird and there is a chance that it may be repairable. The saddest part of all is that this aircraft was formerly G-AMPZ which was owned and operated by Starways.
Some of you may remember that about two years ago the EU decreed that the DC-3 would not be allowed to make passenger flights. As usual, Britain rushed to implement the legislation while the rest of the EU works to find a way around it...

Wasn't this the DC3 FoLA chartered for a trip to the IOM a few years ago for a Manx Airways celebration? I remember we arrived at the main terminal, disembarked and were told that we were in the wrong place. We reboarded and were then taxied across the airfield to were the event was taking place. Shame to see the damage done but knowing how tough the DC3 is it will probably be returned to flying soon. Interesting how the Germans are still flying passenger flights and we are not allowed!!

Very sad indeed. I flew over the tall ships in her in 1992. Lets hope the owners of the DC3's lobby the current government to allow passenger flights again. Although small in number it would create badly needed jobs.

Good news link for this story.I do wonder though how fast the AAIB in the UK would allow a crashed aircraft to be removed like this.

This thread requires a photo of 'MPZ in Starways colours. I am only sorry I can not oblige. Maybe somebody can do the honest thing.
