Threatened to do it since my last visit in 2008, but the wife was up for it so we went for a ten day break to the US c/o Delta Airlines.
Tuesday 15th of June 2010 dawned and our machine for the uneventful flight to Atlanta was 767 N1603.
Got through immigration, collected our cases and headed to the Renaissance Concourse Hotel, which without doubt is the best hotel with airport view I have ever visited. As you get your own balcony with chairs and a table. Even had a wide screen TV for the wife to look at when it got too hot on the balcony.
Spent four days at Atlanta, and finished off my MD80's, Air Tran 717's (only needed 4 anyway) and my Delta 757's the N600's although I still need a few of the old NW machines, hopefully I will polish some of them off when I go to Chicago/Minneapolis and Toronto next year.
The diffence this year with the last time I visited was that there was lots of Delta 737's made 35 which left me with five to get although I got one at JFK which left me 4 to get.
Also made a few of the new Delta 777 N701DN/707DN/708DN/709DN & 710DN
Made a few gap fillers on the regional jets which I had to log each one seen, and check each one as well as some of the old NW CRJ's sneaked in as well made 17 of these.
Atlanta is just agreat airport to visit and I would recomend anyone who has not visited to go and enjoy.
Not a lot to see with foreign airlines only Lufthansa with A340's, KLM with A330 and Korean with 747's oh and CRJ's of Air Canada Jazz about 8 a day.
Otherwise all you are likely to see are hundreds of Delta plus US airlines Continental with 737 and ERJ (30 made) Spirit A319 AA with MD80's and 737's plus Am Eagle with CRJ700's and ERJ- USAW with A319/320 and E175's United with E170 and CRJ701 plus early morning A320 Plus Air Tran 717 & 737's plus Frontier
Quite a bit of freight to be seen FedX with A300/MD10/MD11/727
UPS 757/MD11 ATI-DC8, DHL DC8- the freight is right by thye hotel and is the biz jet area saw about 30 whilst I was there. Had intended to visit Peachtree but decided to have a few hours chilling out in Atlanta, Foreign Freighters park over the far side daily flights include China Cargo, Eva with MD11 & 747 LH MD11 Cathay 747 etc etc
Saturday 19th June headed to Boston on 757 N692DL 2 hours and 1 minute exactly- great city and quite a busy airport made 4 on landing then headed for the short journey into Boston Really enjoyed it here took in a Baseball game between the Red Socks and Dodgers and took in the culture of the city and had a great 3 days, only other aircraft seen was Aer Lingus A330 EI-ELA
Tuesday 22nd June short hop on CRJ900 N538CA to JFK had a couple of hours at Boston spotting and made another made 19 new airframes.
landed at JFK and copped a further 12 whilst taxying including Austrian 777 OE-LPD Swiss A330's HB-JHA/E and Emirates 777 A6-ECU.
Spent 2 days in New York before returng last Thursday on 757 N704X again planned it right to have a couple of hours in JFK before the flight made a further 35 including A380 F-HPJB Lan 767's CC-CZW/CDP, BAW A318 G-EUNA Eva 747F B16463 etc.
When we were leaving JFK we were taxying for exactly 1 hour as they were only using two runways because of the windy conditions, at one stage we were number 30 in line. Eventually we took off and apart from about an hour of moderate turbulence it was again a good flight.
Landed almost on time at Manchester made a further 8 including two Easyjet and 9V-SWO 777.
Made 471 on the trip plus a few tie ups to find out but a great trip plenty of aircraft some Baseball a show in NYC and better still no Flags of St George.
Happy Days
