Well done, S7! I think it's a good opportunity to remember that cabin staff are not there just to sell scratch cards (which personally I find very demeaning), and serve coffee and that primarily they are of course there to deal with emergencies. When I worked for a handling agency at Manchester, we had a number of occasions where there was a medical diversion and it was comforting to know that each time, the cabin crew were in complete control of the situation. I remember one particular occasion where a man had had a heart attack on an easyJet flight and the cabin crew had gone into full medical emergency mode. The paramedic who arrived first on the aircraft told me later, that had they not dealt with the man so promptly and correctly, he probably would have died. As it was, we heard that he made a full recovery.
One other comment concerning Russians. They are portrayed in the west and hard-bitten and uncaring, but in most cases this is a veneer. I once remember seeing an old lady collapse whilst shopping in a large supermarket in Moscow. Within seconds she was surrounded by worried shoppers, water and a blanket were brought and an ambulance called. the manager (who as far as I could gather was trained in First Aid), arrived on the scene and took control of the situation until the ambulance arrived within about five minutes.
