At first I thought it was a Buzzard but It was a lot slender like a Kite (or Harrier) it was flying low over the fields near Pickerings Pasture around tea time. I am convinced it was a Red Kite maybe a Juvenile but after cropping the pictures and comparing them to my books I am really not 100%. Has anyone else any thoughts? It has the wrong shape of tail to be a kite Paul. There are people around who fly their own birds around the area, so could be one of those but I don’t know what type yours is from the picture. It has the look of a Harrier of some sort. Phil

Personally I would say a Buzzard and you are correct with a juvenile, that’s my opinion anyway so I could be wrong Richard

Good Morning Bulldog. Just had a look at some Marsh Harrier images online and yes it is a Marsh Harrier (thank your Nephew). What threw me a bit is some other images I have seem to make the bird look a bit redder in colour. But after cropping the images I could not be 100% certain that why I put the request on here. I have only seen a Marsh Harrier once before a while back at Martin Mere. Its a first for me near where I live anyway. Thanks for all your help.

According to nephew, it’s unusually light around the shoulders and what appears to be orange is usually a creamy colour. The dark brown body ,narrow wings and head are characteristic.
Perhaps useful info for future
