I imagine we all get a bit fed up with the advertising on all theses sites but its a way of enjoying our hobby free of charge. I just thought I would say I was attracted by something which popped up and I bought it with satisfaction, so bravo to "proboards" and NWAN.

The page header and footer adverts displayed are not the same for every member. For example mine are usually Spanish rather than English. I strongly suspect that they are not provided by Proboards, but likely by Google who buy the rights from Proboards to display them. Certainly the ads are often driven by your recent internet search activity.

Certainly the ads are often driven by your recent internet search activity. The Advertisements are Powered by Google AdSense, Proboards will be paid a fee for the banner space, views and they will likely get commission also from the vendors should we click on a given ad. Google AdSense uses complex methods/bots and cache "Adwords" from your internet browser (in the recent past, the methods used were teetering on the blatant invasion of your internet privacy and most certainly an abuse of "soft power") to establish the best adverts to show a given user.

As an example on Saturday, I spent a fair while on Skyscanner.net poking around various routes and times of year looking at fare combinations from Malaga to three different destinations. No intention of booking - I'd do that direct with the airline(s). On Sunday I only looked in on three forums - two (NWAN and Key Press/FlyPast) provided multiple ads from a Spanish low cost flights company, but mostly edreams.com, with 'lowest' prices targeted at the precise routes I was looking at on Saturday. edreams are on a looser anyhow, as I am in conflict with them over a refund from Air Malta in September, which edreams informed me last week could be a further three months before it is refunded. Even as I type this edreams cheapest price ads for Malaga-Edinburgh and Malaga-Malta (2 of the 4 routes I was investigating) are at the header and footer of this NWAN page.
Mind you, the bots do get it wrong, I often wonder where I've been to generate ladies clothing ads in Spanish!

Mind you, the bots do get it wrong, I often wonder where I've been to generate ladies clothing ads in Spanish! The language is easy Google AdSense know where you are, tools.tracemyip.org/search--country/spainThey have a network of vendors that pay them for randomly "casting the bait" if you will at lower traffic times or slower internet connections, likely a company that has a number of Spanish speaking customers within your IP address district. The adverts are sometimes slow to load in rural areas, they know this too (as they know how long their adverts take to load from your internet cache and handshake /load times with a particular website. This is only a part of what is commonly known as Analytics) analytics.google.comSo they use banners with lower resolution graphics output for these ISPs/Connections. Analytics is the holy grail of advertising, to say that the information Google Analytics hold about you and everyone else is much sought after would be the understatement of the century. Its all a bit big brother watching you but when you click "I Agree" now and then on the google search page without reading the very lengthy terms and conditions, that is what you agree to. Clearing history and browser cache "forever/for all time" doesnt really stop very much, all in the terms and conditions again. One thing with Google AdSense, You wont see adverts for Apple iphone/ipod/imac products here , even though the target audience of google is massive, they Google-Apple dont get on shall we say. There is a lot of history on that one.
