I've traced seven visits by six different Pan Am Boeing 707-321s to Liverpool during the 70s: 22.7.72 N415PA empty from London/Heathrow, departed with charter passengers to Shannon, a tech stop for fuel en route to USA. First recorded visit by Pan Am to Liverpool Airport. 13.8.72 N404PA arrived direct from New York/JFK, positioned out empty to London/Heathrow. 30.1.73 N458PA operated a freight charter that originated at Miami, the aircraft arriving from New York/JFK, and departed back to New York/JFK transAtlantic direct! 21.7.73 N495PA arrived from Prestwick and departed with passengers for Shannon and fuel en route to the USA. 12.8.73 N891PA arrived with passengers direct from New York/JFK, departing for London/Heathrow. 25.5.76 N887PA positioned in from London/Heathrow to operate an outbound passenger charter to a LFC European Cup Final in Rome. Returned in the early morning of 26.5.76, routing from Rome and positioned out to Cologne. Other aircraft in the airlift included a BA Tristar & Trident, 3 x Transavia B.737s & a B.707, Monarch 2 x B.720 & BAC.1-11, Sterling Caravelle, Laker BAC.1-11, 4 x Britannia B.737s, Aer Lingus B.707. No Pan Am Boeing 747s ever called at Liverpool. There were also trans-Atlantic passenger charters operated by Douglas DC-8s of TrasnInternational and Air Canada in the early '70s - details can be found on a thread 'DC-8 visitors to Liverpool Airport' - probably now several index pages back. That's one of the aspects of this site that I so admire - 2 hours from request to answer. Not bad going! Good question too.N415PA 'Clipper Monsoon', the first Pan Am Boeing 707 to land at Liverpool, on 22nd July 1972. N891PA 'Clipper Gem of the Oceans' at Liverpool on 12th August 1973.
