I realise this is of interest to only a few, but for those few, here we go:- I live near Lucon which is on the line from Nantes to Bordeaux and Toulouse. Its currently closed for a programme of complete overhaul involving the uprooting of all the tracks, signals and crossings and the installation of a new single track with passing places, new signalling and new crossing controls. One of the passing places will be Lucon which now has a new underpass. With the expectation of having two trains occupying the passing places on both platforms, the old way of just crossing the tracks to get to the southbound side is no longer practical. I enclose a photo taken between the wars which shows the foot crossing. little changed until now. Screenshot (294) by Ron Turner, on Flickr An impression of the work can be seen here. In this video the chief engineer explains that signalling for the total project will be controlled from a new building at Lucon. www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3UkdSZv8YQThe work on this line is part of a wider program organised by the French government, looking for opportunities to reopen lines closed in times past, but which now might be viable with changed populations, regional transport and tourism needs. With the TGV network more or less complete in France, it gives an opportunity to fill in some gaps which might have been unthinkable 30 years ago. One such line is from Cholet to Les Herbiers. If it goes ahead it will link up with the heritage line from les Herbiers to Montgne sur Sevre. Here is a picture of that line from the Tourist office of The Vendéé. I have a similar phot taken myself from the '172 a few years ago, but not at all as good as this one.:- Screenshot (303) by Ron Turner, on Flickr
