Hi Everyone from CYKA,
I hope everyone is staying safe and well away from this virus.
Would anyone have the name, address or email of a good Aviation book supplier in the UK.
I am having severe difficulties here trying to replace my books that I brought with me when I moved from the UK.
Hoping someone can help me.
Many thanks,
Paul

For second hand aviation books, I look first at Abe Books - an international consolidator for a great number of book dealers worldwide (including USA). I've purchased via them on a couple of occasions with absolutely no problem. Great when you know the exact title/author/publisher/date of the book you are seeking to purchase. I will admit to sometimes then contacting a dealer direct by phone (just Google the selling Bookshop name), not making the purchase via Abe Books (actually a German based company? but you wouldn't know it) - p&p conditions can differ between Abe and individual traders for overseas or multiple titles purchased at the same time ie try asking traders for a bulk or p&p discount. Indeed, take care as p&p from UK to Canada could be greater than the book cost!
For certain enthusiast books (registers/histories/reference works), try Air Britain Historians. They update their list of second hand books monthly - but a search on Google may not always connect with the latest list. They also, on a different web site, have a wide selection of their own new books - some fascinating research is published, although at a price! 'Used' prices tend to be around the same as the lower prices offered via Abe Books's dealers.
For current titles, going direct to the publishers can make sense eg Tempus Publishing, Crecy, Ringway Publications, Woodfield Publishing etc. When I can, I try and do this as I am providing more profit to the people who have done the work and taken the financial risk, the 'mark-up' on new books between publisher and high-street retailer is massive, which is how some publishers absorb some of the p&p cost to encourage direct purchase.
Amazon make lots of promises, but certainly in the past there have been supply delays as the advertised new aviation titles were not actually in stock. On both Abe and Amazon don't just look at the 'headline offer', but scroll through the whole list of title stockists as the list is not ranked by price.
Use commonsense and be aware that occasionally the edition for sale does not match the cover illustration (eg spotted this with Wreck & Relics), and that you know the date of the latest edition (if that is what you are looking for) as the description will not state that it is effectively not the latest.
Good hunting.

abebooks was Canadian but owned by amazon for many years Amazon are useful for the searching as the algorithms for matching words /sound-alikes are very powerful. Amazon do however impose postage rates on second-hand book sellers meaning that the seller can often give you a better price outside the marketplace. Prices for second-hand books are also manipulated automatically by amazon based on the frequency of searchs for specific titles.
I would also suggest using bulletin boards like this one for your 'wants' list (if there are rules about such activity then I imagine a message to the admin team to check beforehand will do the job). I don't have any aviation books (ourtside of an archive on AVRO manufacturing) but have given away photography equipment and books on various topics via other bulletin boards (can't be bothered with 'selling' so all I do is ask that any recipiet makes a donation to Mountain or Cave Rescue (or similar organisation) in their area).
Also free wants adverts can often be placed in enthusiast magazines (no idea about modern aviation mags as I haven't bought one in 20 years) - in the past I used thisd method to find information about a few local MoS sites.
Good luck with your quest.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for the replies. I am trying to get a book of Aviation Museums Worldwide, An up to date World Airline Fleets and this book if such a thing exists, Aircraft gate guards or Aircraft on pylons world wide.
Over here they don't seem to stock many titles, a lot of people take photographs but not a lot of people collecting serials / registrations.
If anyone can help, would they send any known details to me.
Many Thanks,
Paul

>>>>An up to date World Airline Fleets www.laasdata.com/publications.phpI bought the 2020 edition of the Civil Airliners of the World book. A sample page is available to view on the above link. A good purchase if you just want a basic listing of registration, type and construction number. Trevor

The only publisher I know of that publishes books listing Aviation Museums around the world is an Air Britain Historians series compiled by Bob Ogden. They are arranged on a continent basis, and there is a fair gap between revisions, and some now fairly dated. Aviation Museums and Collections of Mainland Europe, 2006 Aviation Museums and Collections of Mainland Europe, 2009 2nd Ed. 672 pages 2269 locations. Aviation Museums and Collections of North America, 2007 Aviation Museums and Collections of North America, 2011 2nd ed. 608 pages, 1043 locations. Aviation Museums and Collections of the Rest of the World, 2008 Aviation Museums and Collections of the Rest of the World, 2019 2nd ed. 800 pages, 4,300 locations - new £40 Covering just the UK, then the every-other-year 'bible' on the subject is Wreck & Relics, Ken Ellis, now published by Crecy. The latest being Ed 27, 2020. New £18.95. The are 'spin-off' versions looking at selected museums and their exhibits in more detail too. As for gate guardians, the only work I know on this subject covered only the UK and was 'On Guard' Ken Ellis, Merseyside Aviation Society, 1978 - so, just a tad out of date!! Would make for an excellent themed photo book though, Gerry Manning are you reading this? The Air Britain 'World Airline Fleets 2020' new £31.50, with a 'Quick Reference 2020' version new £13.50. No doubt the 2021 editions will be along shortly. I have no idea if the Gunter Endres 'World Airline Fleets' still appears annually or if the LAAS/TAHS series is still produced. Hello Brian, yes I am reading this. You are right to recommend Bob Ogden's three works as they are very much the 'bible' for museums. As well as this all three 2nd editions have gate guards and momuments around the world as well as the museums so cover all known preserved aircraft.
I would like to do another book as my "1000 Preserved Aircraft in Colour" came out in 2006 (still available if you Google it from various book sellers)just need a publisher to give me a contract.
Hope all well in your world.

European Military Out of Service 2018 (published by Scramble, Netherlands) is an excellent book albeit a massive volume. It sold out rapidly and second hand volumes are unattainable, I have given up looking. It was £45 originally.
