Football returned to Runcorn yesterday after 9 years away. They opened their new Stadium "The Millbank Linnets Stadium" which is situated at the Halton Sports, Murdishaw, Runcorn yesterday with a friendly against their previous landlords Witton Albion. It was a great day and although they lost 1-3 it was very enjoyable for my wife and myself as well as the 1,000 plus who attended. The Stadium is a smashing stadium with the entrances (turnstiles) to the right of the pub. The Stadium was opened by our local MP's as well a officials from Halton Borough Council and the main sponsors Millbank. Runcorn play in the Vodkat League (North West Counties) Although I am an Everton Season Ticket holder I intend to visit the stadium as much as possible in the future to give my support to the club and I would ask other fans in this forum to visit wherever possible. The club is run by the fans and all the monies generated is put straight back into the club. The ground building was only commenced in February- Fantastic feat. So if you have nothing to do on a Saturday - get down to Runcorn. Next matches (Both Freindlies) 20/07/2010 (Tues) Runcorn v AFC Liverpool 19:45 03/08/2010 (Tues) Runcorn v Newcastle Town 19:45 £3 to get into the above Kids Free League £5 Kids Free (Bargain) Thanks for listening Happys Days Bob

Great news for football in Runcorn. It is always good news when a football club returns to its roots.

Even though they were beaten they played some good football. Lets hope they can keep it up.

Some fixtures for your diaries 07/08/2010 (SAT) Colne H 14/08/2010 (SAT) Maine Road H 21/08/2010 (SAT) Alsager Town H 24/08/2010 (TUE) Formby H The good thing about the new stadium, is apart from watching the match, if they are landing on 27 you can see everything going into LPL and if they are landing the opposite way you can see almost everything going into Manchester Happy days Bob

Final score 3-3 very great match worth every penny of the £3 paid for entry and aircraft landing at LPL were on 27. What more can you ask for. Goodison on Wednesday to see Everton v Everton (Chile)
Happy Days

Went to the game today, not the best, but 508 hardy souls turned up to see a 2-2 draw with Colne. Saw a biz landing at 16:05 possibly the Netjets Hawker and even better news received via my phone that Mikel Arteta has signed a new 5 year contract with the blues. Happy Days Bob

Interestingly there are now 2 runcorn teams in the North West Counties League. Apart from Runcorn Linnets in the top division Runcorn Town today played their first match in the second division and beat Abbey Hey from Manchester 5 -1 at home ( the Pavilions complex in Sandy Lane ) . They used to be in the West Cheshire League and before changing their name to Runcorn Town a few years ago were known for many years as Mond Rangers.

JD,
Yes I knew about Runcorn Town, funnily enough they have a better pitch than the one at Halton Sports, apparently the Linnets were looking at the ICI Rec before getting the new ground.
