For the past week or so my PC has been behaving weirdly and each day gets progressively worse.
Initially the issue centred around the page scroll function on the mouse that would, without warning zoom in/out rather than scroll up/down. Could be corrected using 'scoll lock' - but would slip back after a while. The problem occurred whatever programme I was using, Internet, Excel, Picasa.
Then I found, especially when on NWAN 'compose' that the window would change without any command (and I would loose whatever had been composed). Annoying.
Today I am wrestling on MS Excel typing the April and May movements. It is regularly zooming in and out rather than scrolling, but now also uncommanded pop-down boxes are interrupting, while underline, italics or delete are acting without command, making progress impossible.
Question is, is my PC on the way out, or is there a 'fix'? I do have a problem at times with the cats wandering over the key board and triggering an F key - but this seems a much wider spread issue. I've put new batteries in both the wireless keyboard and mouse to no effect.
HELP! Sent using an old laptop.

Well Brian totally understand the cat problem, especially when they lie on the keyboard. My knowledge of computers is equal to the cat and if the nuke option of turning the stupid thing off and on doesn’t work, then I ask my son . In Lake District now but have forwarded your message to him. Hopefully he may have an answer. Best wishes

Think I've spotted a possible answer. This morning the PC was working to command as it should. No issues, so I got the April movements finished on Excel, copy and pasted onto NWAN then formatted it all into straight columns, closed down the windows used and left the PC to its own devices for the afternoon. Come back at 6pm and the PCs response to input is somewhat do dally - indeed worse than yesterday.
Then it stuck me, although it has always been a quiet running tower, a sound I'm not hearing is the cooling fan. Would running warm produce the effects I have described with uncommanded changes of window and some instructions eg certain letters on the keyboard not responding with the mouse scroll function changing from scroll to zoom?
Thanks for the reply above and others via PM and e-mail.

Wireless keyboard/mouse when using any office 365 application ? Only for the very very brave. Excel has become just like all the other office apps, bloated, far too many bells and whistles and leaving the user deciding to either restart or hard reset by taking a hammer to the screen.

have you checked for dust bunnies, on or around the heat sink or mains power unit?
