Not too sure if this is the right section to post this, but here goes. Do any atc's or airband listeners out there know who monitors Rhyl radio on the freq. 123.475 . newpin

You don't give any context for the question.
If this a temporary allocation you have spotted, then presumably it is for the Air Display weekend after next.
123.475 is the allocated aerodrome frequency for Dunkeswell (EGTU) aerodrome, not that far from Exeter, Devon. That is no help though.
Had a thought that it maybe the SafetyComm frequency (used at airstrips with no allocated frequency), but that is the not disimilar frequency 135.475, and anyhow would be called 'Safetycomm', not 'Rhyl Radio'. Other N.Wales frequencies eg Caernarfon, Mona and Valley VHF are nothing like 123.475. Thought of the gliding and microlight sites (even though none are at Rhyl), but cannot unearth their frequencies, I have the list somewhere ....... but where?

To add more detail ,it is a frequency which I have heard light aircraft contact as they head up the North Wales coast. By monitor, I mean which ground station is the freq allocated to. newpin.

Gliding sites used a general one of 130.1 and the sites at Denbigh and NW where 129.975 which is or was also used by the fixed wings of Tony Hodgson Spitfire etc when using the field at Bryn Bach farm.
These are as you can not the same as yours.
Could it be a freq set up by microlights in the area or para gliders ?
I will listen out as I should be able to pick that up.
Could it be any connection to London Information used as a contact freq for any aircraft not under any other control, did you perhaps mishear and the aircraft called giving its location as at, or near Rhyl when initiating a contact with L/Info, which they would do ?

Thanks for all the feedback guys.I am pretty sure the frq is correct as a light aircraft called it last week. I could not hear the ground station so it maybe shielded from my antennae.I have heard NWP heli call up on it also. I have been scanning local airfields for quite a while now and was surprised to hear the aircraft announce change from Haw to Rhyl radio. It is not a station I am familiar with. newpin

Had not thought of the Police Chopper. 'Rhyl Radio' could well be a frequency used by the Police base at Bodelwyddan. The name fits the location and Rhyl is much easier to say over the VHF. Could be you've provided the clue to answer your question. It would not show up on my frequency lists either.

I would have thought any new use of a radio station would be well documented amongst local ATC units, in this case Hwd, LPJL, Valley and Caenarfon ? There are I am sure also some legal problems with just making a new atc station. Coaxingtin may help on this.

Gents, as you figured this is NW Police ASU air/ground c/s RHYL RADIO. Heard SRG128 "going on route 123.475" some months ago. Later called to check their aircraft was on the ground and went en route Valley approach. Freq is listed in a VHF AIP document, which i'll dig out when I get home.
Cheers Alex

Lastly,I found a web site scanuk.9.co.uk but I refused to enter as it was only allowed if you completed one out of a list of competitions. Anyway it does mention 123.475 possibly being used by Greater Manchester ASU some time back.

Further to my last, it isn't listed in the document I thought it was but is on the Valley Sea King stud list as North Wales Police 123.475. 132.650 also listed as Holyhead Coastguard for those interested, though marine VHF much more likely to be used.
