At the age of 78, one destination in particular has evaded me, but not for much longer. Me and Mrs T have booked Volotea from Nantes. For week. Question is where to stay?
Like the idea of the old town but is it really of interest? Love the sea but we can miss it for a week. We have plenty of that at home. Likewise the pool. So what we like is exploring interesting places, galleries, monuments, but not over the top, and most of all finding good places to eat in the evening, possibly with a bit of entertainment. Quiet is OK too, but not isolated.
Access to local transport would be useful
We found a gorgeous apartment in the Old Town. Booked it, but it we can cancel.
I guess there are many on NWAN who have visited Corfu, maybe multiple times. Any ideas and opinions ?
Thanks in advance.

Lovely island, but always a bit too close to Albania for my taste The old city is wonderful for walking and just hanging around and the whole place is very laid back, as befits any Greek island. There is (was) a hotel which overlooked the runway, but it's a few years since I was last there, so I'm not sure about that now, and it may not go down too well with the other half While you're there, take a moment to remember Cedric Flood's 1-11 epic incident there, where he took off in a fully-loaded 1-11 and lost an engine, but got the beast safely back onto the ground. All is revealed in 'A Pilot's Perspective'. Probably worth hiring a car, but beware, the roads - and the drivers - can be treacherous! I speak as someone who spent four years living in Athens!

Postcards acquired 2002, so don't know how up to date they are. Will reply further when back from staycation break. The hotel you mention is visible at the 35 end. The pedestrian causeway shows up well.

One place of note is Nisos Restaurant, nice food, elevated open eating area. Sun is in a good position all day for photos. The scuba diving excursions leave corfu town by bus and head to Kerasia Beach and dive on a wreck very close indeed to Albanian waters. A brilliant day out, smashing beach.
