Lets hope it in not like the takeover of EWS Should I start panicing now? What happened here then? DB decided that they did not want to continue operating certain core patrs of the EWS operations, namely Coal Transportation. There were quite a few redundancies within the drivers. This was once a common sight, but will now concined to history

Hadn't realised they had done that but it does explain why I haven't seen one of their coal trains for a while. Arriva did much the same when they took over MTL by canceling all their school bus services. I understand it was a major headache for Merseytravel and one that they don't seem to have recovered from. But then again, (in my opinion) they only have themselves to blame for that one.
Looks like it could be interesting times ahead for Arriva - lets hope the axe doesn't fall too hard too soon.

I wish I had your confidence Jordan but only time will tell. With the proposed abolition of fuel duty rebate some really tough decisions could lie just months ahead. Yes, I agree, we could do without clapped out buses from London clogging the pitts up and hopefully we will see new stock but these are interesting times for all bus operators. With losing almost 40p per litre (£1.80 per gallon) overnight, this may not be the best time for any company to invest in new vehicles. So, lots of job cuts both within the industry and its suppliers could prevail should these proposals be realised. It's ironic that at a time when more buses are needed to satisfy demand caused by those on low incomes to abandon their cars, buses are forced off the road too! Still, I suppose the powers that be know what their doing - yer right ;D Oh, by the way weve just got three 07 reg Cadets form Chester. So, hopefully, three less from London.

Where did you get this info from as they are still running quite a lot of coal trains , not as many as before but that is probably down to other freight companies winning the business or other modes of transport ( some traffic moves south from Scotland by ship now).
