Channel 4 8pm tonight "Dispatches:AIRPORT CHAOS". As the title says airports chaos around the UK airports,i think its focusing on one airport and one handling company, should be interesting to say the least

I was talking to the film crew on the day they visited LJLA. They where just after landing and take-off shots, nothing else as they were there just to show how good JLA has been compared to MAN.

Interesting programme, and well put together, I thought. For me, the most interesting part was the guy they managed to smuggle in as a Swissport baggage handler, who exposed the mess that the whole baggage handling situation is in at the larger airports. (As a former Swissport employee, I indulged in a little schadenfreude at seeing them exposed like this). Baggage handling - or rather the lack of it - is the root cause of many of the delays and cancellations, because late baggage to the aircraft can lead to the loss of the slot and by the time the new one has been allocated, in the current climate at least, one of the crew has gone out of hours and there are so few standby crews currently that the flights have to be cancelled.

Depends on how you look at the situation. Passengers don't see luggage handling problems, unless nothing arrives on the belt for hours!
Last month at Edinburgh walked past a mountain of luggage piled high - it should have gone onto USA flight departures, but due to a broken belt didn't - the aircraft leaving without the luggage loaded. Must have been an unhappy load of customers with an amazing number of golf bags in the luggage mountain.
As a passenger, my current groan regards the airport experience of Covid social-distancing rule busting snaking queues, for as long as over one hour, to get through passport and search-comb. Malaga (the quickest), Bristol, Edinburgh (the worst as there is insufficient floor space for snake weaving the queue) and Amsterdam. No issues at Norwich (although luggage check-in took an hour, but with only two flights all morning, security was a breeze - however did effectively cost 10 Pounds (as you paid it on entering 'search comb') 'airport development fee'.
Amsterdam was interesting as the how you sort out your belongings to place on the X-ray belt was rather different to elsewhere. Liquids (still must be under 100ml) should be left in your luggage, so too laptops, mobiles etc, coins can be left in jackets then placed on the tray. However not even handkerchiefs in trouser pockets as they were using high-tech body scanners. While the 'snake' queue was certainly the longest at Amsterdam, they kept it moving at a moderate pace and I was through into departure lounge area in 50 minutes, beating the hour at Bristol and Edinburgh.
Mind you I did my bit to delay an aircraft departure at Amsterdam, by missing an onward flight, so my through-booked bags had to be off-loaded. (full tale is under a 'Norwich' thread in the 'Other civil airports' section).
I've changed the title to better match the content.
