Did anyone spot the Chinook going over Kirkby area, looked to be heading in the general direction of the airport, then not long afterwards it was heading back the other way.

UPDATE: It's just been back past again, first towards Liverpool, then back away again. Some exercise(s) going on somewhere?

Callsign was SHF "Vortex" 475, exited the zone en route this time. Possibly involved in the fire service exercise, though unlikely.
Sea King SAREX 123 in the area, presently at Aintree as part of the ex.

Yes, it's likely that all these helicopters are part of Exercise Orion, details in another thread.

BBC local News had a reporter onboard the Chinook which was carrying search dogs and handlers to a mock earthquake senario. Somewhere near the Croxtheth Fire HQ.

Nothing to do with the Mil/Fire Ex but this BzJet crossed my flat this afternoon heading towards the River Dee so maybe 09 LPJL or HWD. G-LEA?

Hi Biggles, My S.B.S. showed G-LEAA at the following times 1430-1445hrs +1618-1642hrs.and G-LEAB using callsign LNX02AB bet. 1710-1730hrs..Both aircraft are Cessna Mustangs. Hope this helps. As Michael Miles use to say "Take your Pick" ;D ;D ;D Happy Spotting. DOUGLAS12(Norman).
