A two day break via Easyjet to Zurich. After landing took the free shuttle-bus to the Park Inn Hotel (as recommended by Silverback) to drop my bags off.
This hotel is tantalisingly close to the action BUT there is a deep, fast flowing river just behind it that turns a five minute walk into a bit of a trek to the right to find the small foot-bridge to cross it to the perimeter fence and then back track to the Heli-Grill location.
The authorities have cut holes in the perimeter fence to help photographers (Manchester please take note)
Spent the day (Friday) at this location. There were about half a dozen “local” spotters plus a constant flow of visitors coming and going by car, on foot and bicycle – I believe it possible to complete a circuit of the airport by bike. Saturday seemed far busier with a couple of hundred people lining the fence.
Bearing in mind how expensive the Terminal areas are the 19CHF (£12) paid for a Bratworst+chips+large beer at the grill was quite good value. There are a couple of "porta-loos" here that are the cleanest I have ever seen (Manchester again please note).
Light aircraft take off low over the Heli-grill.
Took the access road back the Hotel – still a good 20 minute walk. I was unable to get a room with a view towards the terminals – the receptionist knew exactly what I was after but said these are popular and need to be booked in advance. The SBS didn’t really help as this was the view from room 304 at the side of the hotel.
