Don't recall 747's attending for the Grand National. I recall a British Caledonian Charter DC-10 visiting in 1983 though.

At least on Banks Rd. every one could see and photograph the visiting aircraft with space to move around,you can't do it now!!

Used to be a constant stream of light a/c arrivals all morning if my memory serves. Banks road was the place to be , happy days

Can't remember if I was working or not that day but I did take my son over to it for a look around inc.a photo of him sitting in the first officer's seat,not the line up on the old 26/08 Rwy,nice shots John👍

That is the best looking colour scheme ever to be worn on a DC-10.

I remember those days very well, and in the years before. I remember just about visible, in the mid sixties an Apache breaking cloud and flying on to Aintree with a very bad result. I suspect that was the last year fixed wing stuff landed on the race course.
