Let us not forget today is 79th anniversary of DDay where thousands of incredibly brave young men lost their lives for the freedom we all enjoy. Seems ridiculous that mankind , allegedly the most intelligent thing on the planet has never learnt lessons from the past to the extent that a single dictator can still send his country to war against another (Apols for bit of politics.)

Don't apologise for the politics, Bulldog. I totally agree and as I often say, I am always in awe of that generation, my parents' generation. Thankfully we see something of the same with the struggle In Ukraine.
We French, for that's what I am now, for the most part, mark fondly "Le Débarquement". My French Mother in Law told me some horrific tales of the family being given 10 minutes to get out of their house when it was commandeered, walking across the fields to goodness knows where, only to finally come back for a few months and to be thrown out again. She was 16. Her brother was in the communist resistance and they lived in fear of him being discovered. That's also why she would not have a word said against people who leave their worn torn countries to seek safety. Stories like this help to maintain the awareness of the sacrifices, in modern day France.
