'POP-UP' SAC FLY-IN MONTROSE, SATURDAY & SUNDAY 25th & 26th AUGUST 2023
Flew Malaga to Edinburgh by Ryanair to visit family near Perth, which just happened to coincide with a Scottish Aero Club fly-in at a 'pop-up' airfield on sports fields and open recreation land on what once-upon-a-time was RNAS Montrose airfield and close to the Montrose Air Heritage Museum.
Weather on the Saturday was reasonable, cool, slight breeze, cloud and sunny periods and a brief flurry of light rain towards the end of the afternoon. 33 aircraft, gyrocopters and a flexiwing microlight attended on the Saturday.
Weather on the Sunday was cloudier with several showers, the final one towards the end of the afternoon quite heavy. A number of repeats and 7 'new' visitors recorded. There were 'sample' flights being offered in either EV-97s or gyrocopters. I had my name down for a flight in an EV-97, but that got put-off by the heavy rain shower and by the time the sun reappeared it was all hands to pack-up and get home.
Full marks to the Scottish Aero Club for their organisation. The landing strip of around 500m was enclosed by red plastic fencing, around which many locals, with their kids and dogs watched the coming and goings. There were also military vehicles and a local car club present too.

G-AVGA, PA-24 Comanche 260, likely the heaviest aircraft to call during the fly-in.
A type, which by reputation is well capable of short field landings and take-offs, N15CK a Maule MX-7 Star Rocket
As flexiwing microlight pilots are usually attracted in numbers to grass field fly-ins, somewhat surprised that this was the only flexiwing seen at the event over the two days. G-CGRS a P&M Quik.
G-LESJ A Denny Kitfox Mk.5
A tail-dragger conversion of a once standard Cessna 150D, G-ASMW
Two of the Gyrocopters in heavy demand for flights, one on start-up and the other on taxi-in, G-CGNC & G-KINZ

Somewhat similar in design is the CZAW SportsCruiser, G-CKUH.

In contrast, although still basically white, a colourful, attractively schemed Europa XL, G-KITS

Eurofox 912S G-OASK. The question is, what is the question I've got to go (and) ask?
Van's RV-6A, G-RVIC. With three different versions of Van's RV's present, polish your recognition skills:
G-XIII a Van's RV-7
Attractive Van's RV-12 in black and yellow, G-RMPS
Another Van's RV-12 G-CKZH.
Exhibits from the Montrose Vintage Vehicle Club.
Some of the vehicles from a US Army vehicle restoration group.

my plans.
