Had a couple of weeks in Washington DC and Virginia at the end of August/ early September. Our hotel for the first few nights was in Georgetown and had a good view of aircraft flying into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Whether arriving or departing aircraft have to follow the line of the Potomac River which, for approaches from the north, involves a fairly sharp to to the right on short finals (so aircraft don’t fly into airspace above the White House). We had a river cruise down the Potomac to Alexandria on the Saturday and saw a steady stream of US military helicopters flying up and down at low level whilst we were waiting for the boat. They were quite a sight (and sound!). Unfortunately I wasn’t able to ID all of the aircraft in question… Sikorsky VH-92 Patriot of Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), based at Marine Base Quantico
69-556 Bell UH-1N, 1st Helicopter Squadron based at Andrews Airforce Base
UH-60 Blackhawk
69-6633 Bell UH-1N, 1st Helicopter Sqn The routing down the river to Alexandria took us past National which is busy throughout the day...
