MONTROSE TOWN
Seen while entering Montrose on the A935 from Brechin. 50 yards from the road behind the end of a cemetery. Recently moved to this location.

now can be easily seen.[/pre]
MONTROSE AIR STATION HERITAGE MUSEUM, 25th August 2023.
Since my previous visit in May 2022, restoration of the Avro C.19 has continued, with considerable progress visible, and a long way still to go! The Tornado, newly delivered in summer '22 has now been fully erected in the WW I hangar and is now open to the public. The Tiger Cub 'plaything' has been moved outside and its place beside the cafe/children's learning zone taken by the fuselage of a Aerosport Scamp. The Slingsby glider which was expected last summer on loan fell through, so it is not hanging over the Hawk Major as intended then! A Jaguar is anticipated with delivery this autumn and will go inside with the Hunter and Tornado, with hopes of a Hawk T.1 to follow shortly after.
Great to visit a dynamic and expanding local museum and chat with enthusiastic volunteers.

When I was last at Montrose in May 2022 Tornado GR.4 ZD744/092 had been delivered, but was still being put together inside.
Here she is displayed 'shoe-horned' into the limited space and height provided by a genuine (although re-skinned) WWI period hangar.
Hawker Hunter F.1 WT619 displayed with one side 'open' to reveal the structure of the aircraft.

An Avro C.19 TX226 once very familiar at Speke in the late '50s while based at RAF Jurby. The rebuild, using as much as
possible of the original metal and wood, is progressing. Still a long way to go, but is now very much more than a stripped
frame. One of the first aircraft I ever 'logged' as a spotter in 1960, I am watching this restoration with interest.

A new exhibit to me, the fuselage of Aerosport Scamp G-DAVB in the children's learning zone, replacing a Tiger Cub 440.
