These are some of the biz jets seen at Madrid over the three or so days we spent at the viewing facility. Excellent weather, bit overcast one morning. Now for a few airliners at Madrid including four B747 freighters. The trouble with taking photos of bigger aircraft is you can not avoid the fencing wires. Ron, we didn't exactly 'find' it. The location is an official enthusiasts enclosure, provided by the airport. The snag is that it is an unattractive 30 minute brisk walk, in the heat, from the end of Terminal 3 along the backs of disused hangars/industrial areas. To gain entry it is necessary to obtain a pass from a security office, then show this to gain entry through a security gate. The viewing area has no services and little shelter/shade, but is a raised bank overlooking the actual airport boundary fencing, close to a spot where the majority of aircraft (although not Iberia and their service partners long haul flights using Terminal 4 Satellite have to pass. Use of the enclosure is free and open daily throughout the year.
A connected little tale. One morning we took a taxi from the hotel to Cuatro Vientos, an airfield on the other side of Madrid City. From there we took a taxi back to Madrid Barajas Airport. The taxi driver could not comprehend where we wanted to be dropped, after all, the only place foreigners need to get to at an airport is the departure Terminal. In anticipation of this we had taken a photograph of the location entrance so we showed it to him, but he did not recognise it! He however then showed it to two instructor pilots standing in an aero-club cafe-bar beside the road, who immediately knew the location and were able to tell the driver in Spanish where it was and we were delivered direct to the right place - so got 'spotting' 30 minutes earlier and saved ourselves the 30 minute hike too!

Were you there on the morning of 7th September Brian? I flew out on EC-LUS to Manchester (we were rerouted by BA flying back from Washington). I will be posting some pictures from the Satellite terminal when I get chance.

On Thursday 7th we were at Cuatro Vientos in the morning on the other side of the City, getting back to the Enthusiast's enclosure around 2pm until 6:30pm ish. Madrid Barajas is a busy place with 4 active runways and 5 numbered terminals (although 1 to 3 are interconnected and T4 and T4S are quite some distance apart). Where you required to move between terminals for the connecting flight to the UK?
Looking forward to your photos from a different area of the airport.

Thanks Brian. No, we arrived into Terminal 4S from Washington and departed from there too. Just a very quick pass through security to get down to departures.
