THE AVRO HERITAGE CENTRE, WOODFORD. Saturday, 1st September 2023. How the area around the Avro Heritage Centre has altered since I was there previously! A good place to linger and examine, however I was running late (due M6 traffic on my way up from East Midlands Aeropark), and wanted to get to the SAHG collection at Liverpool before they went home. As I was about the only visitor there, I think I left the reception puzzled at my somewhat brief stay. I particularly wanted to have a look at the Shackleton, the major change since I was last there - but it is in storage elsewhere! (G-AGPG) Avro C.19 NOSE & COCKPIT section only (G-ORAL) HS.748 FRONT section only Avro Type F Replica Suspended from roof (R5868)/PO:S Avro Lancaster B.1 FRONT section only, replica using original parts (XV106) Vickers VC-10 NOSE & COCKPIT section only, outside (XV235)/35 HS.801 Nimrod MR.1 COCKPIT & FRONT section only, outside XM603 Avro Vulcan B.2 RAF anti-flash white overall Changes since W&R 28 2022: I did not note seeing Canberra TT.18 cockpit section WK118/CQ, or Vulcan cockpit XM602. Also did not note the Roe Triplane Replica (G-CFTF), but I could well have walked underneath it without looking up! An Avro Vulcan is always an impressive sight. It may be Mk.2, but the anti-flash white of the Mk.1 catches the eye. Inside the Avro Type F replica suspended overhead The impressive Lancaster forward fuselage re-creation. Distinctive nose shape of the radar research Avro 19 G-AGPG Nose of HS.748 G-ORAL Vickers VC-10 XV106 nose and cockpit section Nimrod MR.2 XV235 nose and forward fuselage on the otherside of the Heritage Centre building.
