Hi There,
Does anyone use a spotting scope ? and if so, what would be your recommendation for steadying it ?
I have seen photographers using a mono-pod and was wondering if they would be suitable for a spotting scope, or if a tripod would be better.
Thanks in advance.

Dakota, My scope came with a mini tri-pod which had a handle on to adjust the angle of same. All I did was to uncrew the handle off the tripod, and then screw the same into the base of my scope, with the handle out to the left or right depending on whether or not you are right or left handed. This did the trick for me, helped me get better support and not as much shaking. Bob

Dakota, as you are probably aware, a tripod having three support legs is a pretty steady platform for cameras or a scope and does not need any hand to aid its use once set up. I mono pod by nature needs you to hold it continually when in use and dependent on a numner of things can sway and move during use. I have both and each has its use, but you make a choice on your own needs, I would add with either try and obtain a sturdy one and not a cheap model, the heavier the better as a useable platform.

I use a monopod for video ,used to use a tripod but it got a bit clumsy when in a crowded area of jostling spotters a monopod has less of a footprint too , just my opinion , try both and see which suits best on the day .
