MALAGA AIRPORT (AGP) SUNDAY 11th FEBRUARY 2024 (15:20 to 17:35) A couple of hours having dropped off a neighbour to catch a Ryanair to Liverpool. As I was in the terminal area, read off the larger biz-jets out-parked on the terminal apron and could read off most of the limited numbers on the executive apron from the Churriana location as heat haze was absent and confirmed my suspicion that the Icelandic Coast Guard Dash 8 that fuel-stopped at John Lennon was indeed on its way to another spell of refugee monitoring. Traffic seemed slow, but looking at the list a fair variety of aircraft and airlines were seen, certainly 4 x ERJs and 2 x A.220 broke the usual monotony of B.737s and A.320/321s - missing though was any sightings of an easyJet! As traffic was landing over the coast I moved from the terminal car park to Churriana only to find air traffic had changed ends, so moved onwards to the inland viewing area. Without bright sunshine, indeed there was mist over the hills and rain clouds out to sea, moved around to locations I would not usually photograph from. MALAGA/AGP, Sunday afternoon, 25th February 2024. 1230 to 1545 local. Created time for a few hours at the Churriana viewing point before collecting a neighbour off the Liverpool flight. Nothing too exciting, although the Canadian C-130J was unusual, but parked way off across on the freight apron. Can't recall having seen Iberojet or West Atlantic aircraft at Malaga before. A week ago the Spanish Air Force had 6 x Eurofighters operating from Malaga on an exercise detachment - needless to say I found out the day they departed! Will have to keep a close watch on the third week in February should it become an annual event. One final comment, my neighbour was full of praise for the Mobility Agent's help she had at both Malaga and Liverpool Airports. She has not been back to the UK for 7 years partly as she had got to dislike the whole airport/flight experience but is already thinking of a repeat trip next year. With aircraft taking off from the far end, and landing aircraft out of sight, not the best location for photography - the light was in the best position though and got better as the evening progressed. The regret of the evening was not spotting the position of moon soon enough to get it 'in shot', as it rapidly climbed above the departing traffic. Airliners were all fairly routine - two "polar bears", proof that summer is on the way! LY-WIZ of GetJet (flying with Air Serbia) and ES-SAB of SmartLynx (flying with TUI fly, Belgium). Very few biz-jets to be seen - 5 on the main apron, a mere 4 on the executive apron, but with 4 out and 2 in seemed fairly active; the US Gulfstream looked good. The surprise was to find two Spanish F-18's sat on the military apron with their cockpits open. Ground crew active, pilots showing kids around. When I left no real clue as to whether they would saddle up and depart, or close the cockpits and night stop! I've seen a Polish Border Guard Aviation PZL M-28 at Malaga before (SN-60YG in 6/21) and LET-410 (SN-61YG in 7/22), this is a further LET-410 with the rather odd-looking civil style alpha-numeric serial, SN-62YG. Presumably on refugee assistance spotting duty rotation for the EU. The strangely registered Polish Border Guard Aviation LET-410UVP, SN-62YG parked on the military apron. Side on view made impossible due to the height of now mature Avacado fruit trees being grown inside the airfield boundary. Don't meet that problem at too many international airports!! The two Spanish Air Force EF-18M Hornets visiting from Zaragosa (way up in the north of Spain) Attractive tail art-work on Pan Europeenne's F-HGPE, a EMB-505 Phenom 300 Bombardier CL.300 Challenger OK-AOA Spanish Grumman G.200 Galaxy EC-KBC Beech B200GT King Air EC-NFX, a new one to me, operated by Eliance and active, in two hours seen arriving from, departing to and returning from Melilla - a short hop across to North Africa. Attractive Gulfstream IV-SP N53WG of Flight Alliance on taxi around to the Executive Apron. Runway in use for departures was 13. Most airlines taxi all the way from terminal to threshold. The long runway enables plenty of height gain before passing over airfield boundary. However, some Ryanair crews opt to depart from the 31 fast turn-off. While undoubtedly still safe, the erosion of safety margins is noticeable should take-off need to be aborted, even though a very rare event. The upper shot is 9H-QEK, middle EI-EPC and the lower, taking the shorter runway length EI-EKM. Oh, the first time I spotted the EC.120 helicopter was while looking at this photo! A familiar 'polar bear' for several years now is Mel Air's, operated by Air Nostrum/Iberia Regional, ATR-72-600 9H-NFT. There were two shiny white Airbus A.320s seen, neither has airline titles and clearly both recently painted, so look smart but bland! ES-SAB of SmartLynx, operating a TUIfly, Belgium (JAF/TB) flight and LY-WIZ of GainJet operating an Air Serbia (ASL/JU) passenger flight. Isn't FR24 wonderful for obtaining details. The only whole aircraft advertising 'flying bill-board' scheme was the relatively common 'Star Alliance' one, although I've not before seen a Swiss International Airbus A.320 so painted. HB-IJO being the airframe involved. I do like the vibrant combination of green and red shades on the Royal Air Maroc scheme. Boeing 737MAX CN-RAM on taxi-in as the heat-haze diminishes in the evening light. Despite a recent revision, I do find Transavia's scheme to be dull and uninspiring. The sloting in of the arrival and take-off of the Helity Agusta AW.139 helicopters on scheduled passenger flights, provides photo-opportunities with angles, back-ground buildings and exhaust haze. There then follows a lot of much of the same from the Airbus family. So, for QUIZ TIME: Spotting the A.319 and the A.321 should not be too difficult, but can you also pick out the two Airbus neo's? The Answers: A.319, Volotea; A.321, Lufthansa; while the neo's are British Airways and S.A.S.

Unusual to see a Boeing 737-700 on passenger services (KLM), while the Boeing 737-800 in full Eurowings scheme was cause for a double-take and questioning one's type recognition - until spotting the Smartwings logo on the wing-tips! A remarkably clear and bright day. The effect of recent rainfall can be seen in the verdant green of grass, trees and wild flowers. 16712 CASA CN-295MPA of the Portuguese Air Force An aircraft seen earlier in the month, but this time seen in a position for a good photo. All white Global 6000 M-HEROES landing. Clearly privileged passengers as it parked on the main terminal apron before moving to an outparked position on the other side of the terminal. Usually Phenoms and CitationJets dominate executive/biz-jet movements, today it was the Pilatus PC-24 with 3 examples on the move A good looking Boeing 737-700 SX-LWC with inXaero titles, both arrived and departed while I was there. Sole widebody of the afternoon was this Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, A7-BCY of Qatar Airways Cause for a double-take. Eurowings, an Airbus A.320 operator's scheme and titles on a Boeing 737-800! The registration, OK-TVU and the Smartwings logo on the scimitar winglets give the game away that it is a summer lease-in. Not so common nowadays, a Boeing 737-700 in airline service. PH-BGM on KLM's Amsterdam service. Standing out as a little different Airbus A.220-300 HB-JCF with its strange engine sounds. One of only two aircraft opting for a short runway departure by joining 13 at the 31 fast turn-off - the BAW Airbus beyond is near rotation point on a full-length departure. D-AIDD Airbus A.321 of Luthansa Air Arabia Airbus A.320 CN-NMI Volotea Airbus A.320 EC-NNZ. I do like the 'tag' line "I'll be home for dinner", one of several used by the airline. Off a decent map the peak is line-of-sight 47km (v approx 30 miles) away from the camera and airport boundary.

MALAGA (AGP/LEMG) Monday, 6th May 2024. Morning visit, observations 09:15 to 10:40. Landing runway 31, (departing 30 almost out of sight) so parked at the Churianna end viewing point - not that many decent photos as it was rather dull - although much brighter later on after I had left! At the airport to collect an incoming neighbour, whose first-wave flight out of Stansted arrived 25 minutes late, due to a number of aircraft all ready to depart at the same time. With no heat-haze many aircraft parked on the executive apron read-off. About 20 shots in, started to wonder why the focus was soft - something had I spotted towards the end of the previous visit's images several days before. Checked the camera over and hey presto, there was the problem - AF had been knocked to MF, working mostly at infinity it took a while to slip far enough to become really noticeable. With a strong down-the-runway headwind, few aircraft dramatically burnt rubber on touch-down, so a fairly ordinary set of photos follows.
