Believed to be MK356 Spitfire Mk.9 BBMF (desert camouflage) it crashed on Langrick Rd during take off - suspected engine failure. The pilot has allegedly been rushed to hospital - sincerely hope he pulls through 🤞

It's just been announced on Sky News that Squadron Leader Mark Long died yesterday in the Spitfire crash. I had the pleasure of meeting him by the mound on the GA road when he was the Typhoon Display Pilot and was based at LJLA for the weekend for the Southport Airshow i think it was.
It's very sad, my thoughts are with his family, friends, and RAF colleagues. RIP Mark Long

To lose a Spitfire is bad enough. To lose such a well liked and talented man is an utter tragedy.
