Hi all, After a visit to see the DC-8 at Manchester I decided to have a trip over to Woodford to see if there was anything still around, and I was surprised to see ;- The Nimrod (ZJ515 / PA-05) has it's engines running with a lot of people coming and going and a fire engine parked directly in front of it. Also on the field was an RJX which I presume is G-ORJX but it appeared to have no registration displayed. It was worth the drive for what maybe the last time (unless we get the airshow!!) A DC-8, a Vulcan and a Nimrod all in one day - not bad ;D ;D Ian

That Vulcan would look so much better as a gate guard at the AVP.

Did you manage to take any images of the RJX as I would be interested to see them

Sorry no pictures of the RJX. It was parked with it's tail facing me and slightly over a crest so that all that was visible was the tail and the top of the fuselage. the angle does improve as you head towards the golf club but I had always heard that they are about as spotter friendly as the Greek Police, although I have never had any trouble on my quick visits.
It will be very interesting to see what happens to the Vulcan. I think the AVP is too small to display such a big aircraft without taking on any more land. Most of the bigger museums already have a Vulcan and some of these are not in great condition. I suppose the Jetstream Club at Liverpool have the space but could they take on such a big project?
Maybe BAe could keep a section of Woodford to display it, but the land at Woodford must be worth an absolute fortune in this location. It's been about 5 years since I have been to Woodford and the amount of new or re-developed very large houses is surprising. The credit crunch has definitely not reached this part of Cheshire.
It will be very sad to see this place close, I've seen some great and unusual aircraft here over the years
