MALAGA COSTA DEL SOL AIRPORT(AGP/LEMG) Tuesday, 9th July 2024. With a mid-afternoon appointment in Fuengirola, so needing to pass the airport twice, made a day-out of it. Around six and half hours at the airport which is recording monthly record passenger figures, so some 160 odd aircraft noted (a few Ryanairs and Vuelings may just have passed unnoticed), far more than during my usual Malaga visits. Missed the recently re-introduced for the summer season United Boeing 757 connection with New York (0735-0935) but did see all 5 wide-body flights due on a Tuesday. Although days of operation vary; Etihad, Qatar, Saudi, Gulf Air, Aer Lingus and Air Transat all serve Malaga during the summer months with wide-body flights.
The basic diet of Boeing 737s and Airbus A.319->321s was varied with a single Airbus A.220 and a CRJ-1000 plus 4 x EMB-190s (even if 2 were British Airways). There was also a single Airbus A.318 and an older Boeing 737-300, a 737-400, along with two -700s to be seen. Not a single Boeing 757 having missed the United aircraft! New colours for me were SkyÜp and Marabu, while it is a while since I last saw Bulgarian Air anywhere. Surprisingly just the one 'polar bear' airliner flown by Smart Lynx (although Air Horizont nearly qualifies) but disappointingly only one special scheme (Vueling) - one which I have seen several times now.
Business and Executive Jets were extremely active, even at a holiday period I don't think I've so many moving in a single day - and there was at least one more (a white Boeing 737) out parked on the northern overflow apron. MALAGA AIRPORT - WIDE BODIES on Tuesday, 9th July 2024 Etihad Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, A6-BLZ on taxi out to departure The summer lunch-time Aer Lingus Airbus A.330 from and to Dublin has been a feature for a number of years. EI-FNG Airbus A.330-300 on taxi-out to the departure runway, showing just how long this aircraft is. Gulf Air's A9C-FI a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner had been in Malaga earlier in the day to drop inbound passengers, on the second visit collecting outbound passengers having been to Casablanca in between. Qatar's A7-BDD Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on finals. Taken with my little camera so not quite so sharp. My new SLR does not warn me as clearly as my previous one that the battery is about to fail - and it did so at an inconvenient moment naturally! Finally Saudia Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner HZ-AR13 on finals.

Malaga Tuesday 09.07.24. Following on from the wide-bodies, two (new to me) operators and few of the non-Boeing 737-8/8MAX or Airbus A.319 to 321 airliners. 9H-SAS Boeing 737-800 in Sky Üp scheme. Airbus A.320-214 LZ-LAH of Marabu. Could get sea-sick if looking at those wavy letters/logo too long! Smart gloss white, but no sign of even an operator name on Airbus A.320 ES-SAX operating with Smart Lynx. Air Portugal's ERJ-190 CS-TPT operated the link to Lisbon twice while I was watching. LZ-PLO ERJ-190 of Bulgaria Air landing. Have Embraer used the same tins of paint for both these airlines? Sole Airbus A.220 using Malaga while I was there was an Air Baltic example LY-CSD in standard scheme. Unusual to see a 'microbus', an Airbus A.318 in airline service. F-GUGR in Air France service, it would appear to be one of only six in the fleet. The other Air France aircraft to be seen during the day was an Airbus A.319 - it would appear that Transavia France must fly a large proportion of the French market, although I do see the occasional French registered car as far south as the Costa del Sol. This gave me a pause for thought as it passed my camera. I was unaware that any British operators were still using Boeing 737-300s. G-GDFO is one of 7 still in Jet2 service (according to Jethro's British Airlines web-site). Must be a complex fleet to manage with Boeing 737-300, Boeing 737-800s, Boeing 757-200s, Airbus A.321s, Airbus A.321Neos and Airbus A.330s. I wasn't really aware that their current fleet features a total of 124 active aircraft either. PH-XRY is essentially the same dimensions as the series 300, but with Next Generation engines, a Boeing 737-700 series operated by Transavia. EC-MUG Bombardier CRJ-1000, operated by Iberia Regional and Air Nostrum.

MALAGA - BUSINESS & EXECUTIVE AVIATION seen on Tuesday 9th July.A very smart Aruban registered Airbus A.320ACJ P4-HSJ 'Capricorn' on taxi-out for departure. JetJets Europe CS-CHJ Challenger 350 turning onto departure runway 13 at the 31 fast turn-off. Included this as four time-expired GA aircraft, plus a long-suffering Dove can be seen on hard standings near the 13/31 fire station. An attractive scheme on EMB-135BJ Legacy SP-DLB, landing on 12 HZ-KSGA Gulfstream 450 on taxi out to 13 below the raised waste ground favoured by photographers in the morning. PH-WPB one of a number of Pilatus PC-12NGs seen during the day. G-IPLY Cessna Citation 500 Bravo of the Little Jet Company shining in the sunlight. On a day the British press announced that the British wealthy 'are leaving in droves in their personal jets' to escape a Labour government, this was the only British registered biz-jet spotted at Malaga/Costa del Sol all day! There was a time when national aeronautics bureau maintained nice, neat, rule regulated aircraft registers. Some nations delight in pushing the boundaries. Azerbaijan registered Gulfstream 550 4K-JJ888. EC-HYI Dassault Falcon 2000 of Spanish operator Gestair. M-HEAD Challenger 650 on taxi-out, with EasyJet's Airbus A.320 G-EZWS just commencing its take-off roll on 13 beyond. Followed soon after by another Manx registered aircraft M-RAFI, a Global 7500. HB-JTO Dassault Falcon 6X, a mark of Falcon not produced in large numbers. D-CHRF Citation 525B CJ3 of Hahn Air. Had not long earlier arrived from from Liverpool, seen here turning onto the runway 13 threshold to line-up for departure. 9H-JAD Canadair CRJ-850 of Air X, parked up on the main executive apron and seen from the Museum fence. Slovenian S5-BAP Cessna Citation 550 Bravo A further Pilatus PC-12NG, OE-EMS parked-up. Not sure, but certainly don't recollect having seen a Brazilian aircraft using their PS- national prefix (they have PP, PS, PR and PT- available). PS-RDN is an EMB-550 Praetor 600. On the left can be seen one of the pair of CL-215Ts, parked on the military apron, the other side of 31/13, while on the right the nose only of the Portuguese Air Force CASA.295MPA. CS-DOW looking rather like a Citation 550, this is actually a Cessna 560 Citation V. Does this aircraft qualify, lack of colour scheme-wise as a 'baby polar bear'? Another Manx registered aircraft, this one, M-ARTY a Pilatus PC-12NG As I was preparing to pack away for the day, from a previously unnoticed location this Diamond DA.62MPP 9H-DGM appeared along the taxiway to depart. ESAO logo. I have noticed this one on FR24 flying survey lines over Spain, just north of Gibraltar a few days before. D-CRON Cessna 560 Citation XLS Landing over on runway 12, with the afternoon sun favouring photography of landing aircraft, EMB-135BJ Legacy 600, formerly with Air Hamburg, now sporting the logo of new company owner VistaJet. CN-TLB Cessna Citation 525 CJ1 departing in the early afternoon heat. MALAGA AIRCRAFT USING THE MILITARY APRONHeavily cropped shot of Guardia Civil AS.365N3 Dauphin HU.30-01/10083, coded 09-401 turning-in to land on the military apron and subsequently rolled into the hangar. Spanish Air Force Canadair CL.215T '43-21'/1116, UD.13-21 on late finals to 13. Although the departure runway, landing movements which are going to be parked on the military ramp are permitted. Just two while I was there. The other 13 landing, later in the day was F-ZBGN King Air B350ER of Douane Francaise, French Customs. As I had a quick look around to check on the Museum exhibits, I'll add a post over the weekend.

MALAGA, Thursday, 1st August 2024 (from inside terminal 1040-1300) A little over two hours from around and inside the terminal. Flying to Dublin. As departure was off 30 and I was in window seat 42K, clocked all the numerous executives out-parked on the overflow apron. However, just after I had turned my back on the departures runway and had safely stowed my camera in it's carry bag than a droning noise filled the air, turned around to see an Antonov An-12 on take-off. Roten timing - win some, but lost this one! From outside of the terminal, inside for bag-drop with no queue, through search-comb with no queue then and out to the gate, via a 15 minute 'snake' for passport control. There was another large Middle Eastern private airliner parked well away, on the freight apron. ATR-72 HA-HAX of Fleetair, also out-parked.
