Airbus are studying owls in an attempt to make their aircraft quieter. They reckon that by copying their leg shape, landing gear noise can be greatly reduced. Other parts can also. Wonder how long it will be before we see tail feathers on an A380.

BBC recently showed a programme where the mystery of the silent flight of owls was explored. The secret is in the trailing feathers on their wings and aircraft companies are studying this phenomenon in a bid to reduce noise of aircraft around airports. Nature has much to teach us.
