Hi folks, Just had a fortnight away, staying with my family who live in beautiful Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. It looks even better in the autumn, so I took a load of photos and forwarded one to the local ITV/Yorkshire "Calendar" news station. They used it in their weather report. I also sent the same pic to BBC Breakfast and it got shown on national TV on Thursday morning too! Anyway, here's a screencap from the Yorkshire weather forecast and my few seconds of fame!! And this is the original that I submitted:- Cheers, Dave

I also caught this Virgin hot air balloon passing in the distance behind Knaresborough Parish Church, taken from the same location as the above. It had presumably launched from Ripley, one of (I think) three sites they use in the area.

Dave, Nice pics, and well done for your moment of fame. If you want to ID the Virgin Balloon, go on the Virgin Balloon website and e-mail the customer relations department with the approx time date and location of your sighting, and you may get a result. Happy Days Bob

Nice overview shot Dave, Autumn is a great season for photography. And on a sidenote, is Knaresborough the place where they petrify things? I think it's something to do with the lime in the water.

Hi Stu, Thanks. Yes, there is an estate called "Mother Shipton's". Which incorporates the cave where prophecist Mother Shipton allegedly lived, plus, on the same estate, there is also the "Dropping Well." This is where water falls over limestone and then pours down the side of a crag. If you hang objects in the cascading water they become calcified after a couple of months - apparently turning to stone, but it is only deposits in the water that cause it to harden. The estate incorporates the clumps of trees seen on the left of the photo on the other bank of the River Nidd. Another famous activity in Knaresborough is the annual Bed Race, which I get involved in (not running it myself!) - doing artwork for our team, Knaresborough Churches Together, and I even took part in the parade this year. I met Aled Jones and made a brief appearance on Songs of Praise when they came and filmed the preparation, parade and race for a programme shown in July. Bob: Thanks for the tip, but I haven't collected regs in over 30 years, so I won't lose any sleep over it! Cheers, Dave
