This forum being the oracle for many questions, here's one I was asked today. My sister asked, do airlines charge for carrying wheelchairs? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ian.

Rules vary from airline to airline. You have to actually look at the booking conditions on the internet site, or it may be covered in FAQs, on an information page etc. In general terms airlines transport wheelchairs free of charge - but usually require you to inform them well in advance (sometimes by contacting them on a premium 'phone line).
From recent experience, Flybe are quite happy to take wheelchairs free of charge, additional to checked luggage. Ryanair will only take a limited number of wheelchairs per flight and have to be informed at the time of booking.
There is no one definitive answer, you will have to research airlines individually. Bear in mind if flying with two different airlines, they have have different rules!
Well, thats my 900th posting.

Thanks for the info Viscount, I'll pass it on to my sister who can make enquiries to the relevant airline. Ian.
