I hope you don't mind me posting these photos from the 1993 show (you did mention 60's and 70's only?). They were taken on the arrivals and departure days as well as the show day (26-06-93). 595 Su-27P Zhukovsky Test Centre J-4027 Hunter F58 Patrouille Suisse 378 Beriev A-40 Mermaid PH-DDA DC-3 Dutch Dakota Association WH646:EG Canberra T17A 360 Squadron XL164 Victor K2 55 Squadron 80-0029 F-15C 57 FIS J-2333 Mirage IIIS 16 Staffel I will try and find some older photos whilst the weather is keeping me at home. First of all appologies for the quality of these photos taken at the 1976 Woodford Air Show (26-06-76), they were taken using a Zenit E on Boots slide film. As an HSA apprentice thats all i could afford! XM597 Vulcan B2 50 Squadron RR299/G-ASKH:HT-E Mosquito T3 HSA P7350:UO-T Spitfire IIA BBMF G-VTOL Harrier T52 HSA G-AYYG HS748-2A HSA XT668:AT Wessex HC2 72 Squadron Interesting to find the photo of the HSA demonstrator G-AYYG as i flew this aircraft with Emerald after it had become G-OSOE, its a small world in aviation. Cheers Shaun

Nothing wrong with a Zenit Shaun, nice pics. I have still got mine, a Zenit TTL. I only bought some film for it recently to "give it a go". LOL. Ian.

It is interesting to see those B&W shots of the Rolls Royce Spitfire. I didn't realise it originally had clipped wings (i think that makes it an LFXIV). My sadest memories of Woodford are of the terrible crash of G-ALGT at the 1992 display, i helped refuel the aircraft in the morning and found the pilot Dave Moore a really nice friendly bloke. This was taken just after it was refuelled on the fateful day. A few years ago (2007) i was at Filton and came across a company in one of the hangars on the northside of the airfield who were rebuilding G-ALGT for Rolls Royce, with the full approval of Dave Moore's widow of course. These photos were not at the annual airshow but it was still quite a memorable day. It was the day that the Chief Test Pilot Charles Masefield realised his dream of flying a Vulcan. He managed to get the company to acquire for preservation one of the shortly to be retired RAF fleet of Avro 698 Vulcans. These two photos were taken on its day of arrival from Waddington on 12-03-82, where it had been in service with 44 Squadron. Charles Masefield and Flight test Engineer Bob Pogson were part of the crew. However, it wasn't the end of '603's usefulness. Later that year and as a result of the Falklands War it donated its flight refuelling probe to the Nimrod fleet and was used to mock up the Vulcan tanker hose drum unit (HDU) installation. It came in use again when the paint shop at Flight Sheds acquired some new electrostatic spraying equipment and it was volunteered to get painted white! Sadly happy days are no more and its fate looks bleak. A great shame. Cheers Shaun

Woodford Families Day 1981The theory was that Families Days would be held at Woodford on alternate years with the sister factory at Chadderton near Oldham, this seemed to work for most of the eighties but they stopped sometime around the late eighties/early ninties. Unlike the annual airshows the factory on the North side of the airfield (also known as as Woodford New assembly – WNA) was open to employees friends and families, with most departments putting on some sort of a display to show off their work. At the time the factory would have held the ‘748 production line and Nimrod MR2 and AEW3 conversion line. These photos were taken at the 1981 Families Day held on Saturday 05-09-81. The display item photos are a good example of why you don’t shoot into sun! Because you spend a couple of hours messing in Photoshop 29 years latter trying to make something presentable out of them! XV147 Nimrod prototype British Aerospace – This was one of the two prototypes and was the one powered by RR Avons. At the time it was in use for MR2 development work. XZ286 Nimrod AEW3 British Aerospace – The first of this mark of Nimrod to fly on 16-07-80. XM657 Vulcan B2 44 Squadron – Wearing the latest wrap around camo’ XM657 flew a display with another 44 Squadron Vulcan in the static display. WL795:95 Shackleton AEW2 8 Squadron. G-BCDZ HS748-2A British Aerospace – Wearing the basic red scheme of German operator DLT, to whom it had been on lease. 'DZ flew pleasure flights for employees. Cheers Shaun

Just re-edited this old photo from Woodford 1996, taken on the Friday before the airshow of an Italian Air Force Tornado IDS. The low turn out after take off got the attention of the SATCO and after completing his practice the pilot was asked to tone his display down! I may add the rest of his practice display continued in similar style!! MM7058 Cheers Shaun
